Only four hours after World of Warcraft patch 4.2 was launched on Tuesday, the dreaded firelord’s comeback tour was cut short by someupstart Horde players on the Deathwing server. Never mind that no one’s defeated the hard version of the fight yet; never mind that the guild in question had plenty of time to learn the fight on the public test realm — the fact remains that many guilds were extinguishing the normal mode of the patch’s foremost raid boss by the end of the day on Thursday and some, however illegitimately, were already downing his underlings on hard mode. And now, only four days since the release of the Rage of the Firelands patch, I find myself wondering how long it’ll take before the cries of burnout or boredom set in.

Even one of the patch’s most memorable quest lines doesn’t last for long, although you should definitely experience it if you like World of Warcraft’s lore. And even if you don’t, it’s worthwhile sitting through this syrupy tale of romance and longing between Thrall (known here by the decidedly less badass name of Go’el) and his new BFF Aggra. I’ll spare you the details, but you might be surprised to learn that you receive one of the best cloaks in the game at this point just for seeing the quest to the end. As you might recall, I once marveled that several weeks went by before I received my first epic item in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm; now Blizzard’s apparently giving them away.

I’m tempted to say that Blizzard extends this generosity a bit too far elsewhere. Thanks to a new menu feature known at the Dungeon Journal, today’s raiders can walk into a boss encounter for the first time and know exactly what’s going to happen. So much for the joy of discovery: The Dungeon Journal includes loot for every tier of difficulty, special abilities, maps with their locations, and even rotatable images of what they look like. I’m half-surprised that the developers didn’t just slap a YouTube video on each page with the preferred strategy for downing the boss in question. Granted, people have been using sites like Wowhead for years for the same purposes (and I admit to sneaking several peeks at it during last night’s raid), but I can’t help but feel that having all of that information at my fingertips takes away far too much of the suspense that I’ve grown to love.

Still, the Dungeon Journal must come as especially good and timely news to the truly casual crowd. Patch 4.2 greatly lowered the difficulty levels of the existing raid bosses, which means that “pick-up raids” of random players are making their first widespread appearances sinceWorld of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. That may be a good thing, since such a move brings back a touch of the accessibility that worked in the last expansion. And, somewhat surprisingly, these pick-up raids are already making their way into the Firelands raid instance itself for the sole purpose of slaughtering “trash mobs” (or non-boss NPCs) in the hopes of getting epic gear or simply raising reputation levels with the new faction. Some groups, I hear, have already taken their chances at fighting bosses, in particular one that only appears after you’ve wiped out a set amount of the aforementioned trash.

And those mobs are everywhere in the new raid instance; in fact, the spawn density is so ridiculous that I felt like I was playing Rift for a moment while farming trash myself. That may be good news for those who only want to get their reputations to an acceptable level, but it’s already starting to annoy folks from the hardcore crowd who want to start battering the big guys. I can’t say I blame them. The seven bosses in the Firelands all feature unique models, and some have really fascinating abilities. After the recycled content of patch 4.1, it’s the most original content we’ve seen in World of Warcraft since Cataclysm’s launch.

But if raiding isn’t really your thing, your only real option is to repeat the daily quests over and over at the new quest hub in the Molten Front. This is a whole new zone, even though it bears some obvious similarities to the Firelands raid instance, and it’s sufficiently different from the rest of the game’s environments to add some spice to the dozens of daily quests you need to finish. The quests aren’t so bad once you manage to get into the zone… but you’ll be stuck in the mountainous zone of Hyjal for a couple of days before you even qualify to enter. Think of it as a molten version of Wrath of the Lich King’s Argent Tournament.

What are we to make of all this? On the face of it, Blizzard’s decision to lower the difficulty of earlier raid instances at the same time that it released a new instance seems to mean that Rage of the Firelands has something for everyone. That may be true on some level, but it’s hard to deny that many players are already tiring of the older content, and that the stunning speed at which even fairly average guilds are offing Ragnaros may hint at growing dissatisfaction to come. At the very least, it’s hard to believe that a mere seven bosses could keep many guilds busy for long, even on the harder modes. Optimism is high right now, but I wonder how the community will react if someone beats the hard version of Ragnaros within the next two weeks.

In fact, it’s somewhat telling that one of the most celebrated aspects of the recent patch among non-raiders was not its raid content or the enthralling sequence with Go’el, but rather the simple ability to rearrange one’s characters on the selection screen. Players have clamored for this feature for years, mainly so their most played characters wouldn’t be lost under two or three alts that they only put a halfhearted effort into. And the patch brings some very minor disappointments, such as the removal of the dungeon keys that many of us had amassed over the years. When I opened my mailbox and saw the paltry compensation I’d received for those symbols of the long years I’d put in the game, I felt like someone had stolen my wallet, my passport, and my wedding ring, and tossed me a few pennies in spite.

Patch 4.2 isn’t bad, but — much like Rift’s recent patch — it’s a little too focused on the raiding side. And while I initially praised the return of old foes from World of Warcraft’s past, I’m starting to wish for something genuinely different. Cataclysm is starting to remind me of decent college writing assignments that I touched up and recycled for the school newspaper while I devoted the rest of my time to a larger project. Give us another world or a while new continent again, Blizzard. Give us something we’ve never seen before.

The Alienware M11x was one of my favorite products of last year; it brought a new level of mobility to PC gaming with its 11-inch form factor, but provided enough power to keep it from feeling like a gimped substitute for your home rig. But despite the praise I had for the system, many were looking for something more – a machine that maintained a similar level of compact portability, but offered a little extra processing prowess – and Alienware answered with the M14x.

The M14x gives users an extra 3-inches of screen space, and a little extra room to breathe with a slightly wider frame and only marginal changes to its overall thickness. The only significant change to the physical design is the M14x’s weight, which adds an extra two pounds to the M11x’s four, totaling approximately 6.45 pounds.

Otherwise, the M14x shares the same general appearance as every other Alienware notebook, which depending on your stance on the company’s industrial design could either be a good or a bad thing. Personally, I appreciate Alienware’s unique style, but it is definitely starting to show its age. For the last few years, Alienware’s notebook line have remained largely the same in terms of look and feel, focusing largely on a dark and ominous aesthetic. While it certainly serves the brand style well, it does limit their appeal to a very specific segment of the market. If, however, Alienware toned down their futuristic extraterrestrial approach, they could show their products for what they really are – powerful PCs that can handle a wide breadth of media applications, with considerable focus on gaming.

But, that’s a discussion for another feature, another time.

Let’s get back to the M14x itself. Underneath the largely plastic, highly stylized exterior, Alienware has dropped in some impressive components, including new Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, up to 8GBs of RAM, and NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 555M GPU.

There are three base models that can be tweaked to order, which start at $1,099, $1,249, and $1,499, respectively.

NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 555M comes standard across all models, though the top of the line model comes with 3GBs of dedicated VRAM, whereas the entry and mid-range models come with 1.5GBs. The base model comes with a 2.3GHz Core i5, while the mid-range model packs a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5, and the premium model sports a 2.0GHz Intel Core i7.

The mid-range and high-end models also both sport 1600×900 displays, while the entry-level model has only a 1366×768 resolution screen.

Naturally, the model I was sent for review came fully loaded with a 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 processor and the upgraded VRAM, and from my experiences with it thus far, it has been able to handle anything and everything I’ve thrown at it; including Crysis 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Dead Space 2 at maxed settings with framerates well above 30 frames-per-second.

However, the real test is how the system performs with Crysis 2′s optional DirectX 11 and high-resolution textures add-ons. Though the GT 555M is DirectX 11 ready, with these updates Cyrsis 2 has reached a new level for benchmark testing. I’ve installed them, and much to my surprise, the M14x can run the game smoothly at native 900p resolution and at Ultra settings.

I’ll save more detailed analysis and results for my full review, but thus far, it is pretty safe to say that M14x is already a surprisingly powerful 14-inch gaming notebook.

Are you keen on gaming? If you are keen on gaming, according to you, what is the best game console? Perhaps, you might have various answers but it is sure that you will agree that Xbox belong to the best game console right?

Yes, indeed, this game console which is produced by Microsoft is capable of providing great games with maximum graphic quality. With such great graphic, the people who play the games by using Xbox can have total gaming satisfaction. However, it is not all people who can enjoy the great graphic performance of this game console. Of course, it is not the mistake of the Xbox. The mistake is usually located in the graphic cable which connects the Xbox to the display. Most of the people only use regular graphic cable. That is why the performance of the Xbox is disrupted. Then, what is the solution?

The best way to overcome this matter is to get Xbox HDMI cable. This high definition multimedia interface cable will make sure that the graphic quality of the Xbox will be maintained. As the result, you will be able to enjoy the full satisfaction in playing the Xbox games. If you are a true gamer, you must have this cable.

World of Warcraft remains a phenomenally successful online game with a huge player base. While Blizzard Entertainment is still rolling out the 4.1 patch update, which includes a revamped version of the Zul’Aman dungeon area, the developer is already working on update 4.2. It will introduce huge amounts of new content to complement the game’s latest expansion, Cataclysm.

Soon, players will be able to explore the Firelands in the 4.2 update.According to lead systems designer Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, update 4.2 is “going to be a really epic patch with tons of content players haven’t seen before.” The update will focus on an area known as the Firelands, an inhospitable, volcanic zone where the game’s mighty fire elemental creatures reside. Said Street, “4.2 will center on going into the Firelands to take on Ragnaros or to use the new daily quest area, which will give players the sense of waging a battle against the fire elementals without having to commit to a full raid.” Ragnaros the Firelord is, as diehard World of Warcraft players know, one of the first bosses ever to appear in the game in the Molten Core raid dungeon–one of the earliest raid dungeons ever to be implemented into the game. “Ragnaros is definitely the sentimental favorite of players…he’s a memorable boss, one of the first that [Blizzard] had ever done. Players remember him as this giant guy emerging out of a whirlpool of fire.” The designer suggested that 4.2′s Ragnaros encounter will not “just be a re-do of Molten Core. It’ll tell the rest of the story–now you’re in his home turf, and he has the home field advantage.”

In addition to adding a new raid dungeon for which Ragnaros will be the boss, the 4.2 update will include a new encounter journal, which is planned to include the vital statistics of every single boss monster in Cataclysm.

Said Street, “We’ve been trying to communicate to players more and more with the quest journal, since [World of Warcraft's] only way to show how bosses work is otherwise to use graphics and animations. Some boss encounters still kind of feel like you have to die through them a few times until you figure them out.” The designer explained that the encounter journal will include a brief list of each boss’s primary powers, such as how the targeting on each power works and whether these powers can be interrupted by player actions. It will also include a list of what sort of loot each beast will drop when defeated. Street pointed out that encounter journals won’t go so far as to break down exactly what adventure parties will be optimal to take on which boss or where each player should stand in a fight. But they should help give players a fighting chance when facing a boss for the first time. The designer also pointed out that Blizzard has plans to retroactively add other World of Warcraft bosses to the encounter journal…eventually. “We said we weren’t going to commit to the project unless it could be extended to include all [of World of Warcraft's] bosses, but we’re going to start with Cataclysm and then go back from there. Cataclysm has about 60 to 70 bosses, but there are a couple hundred in the entire game.”

The 4.2 patch will also include a new area known as the daily quest hub, which will provide new content for players who aren’t necessarily ready to spend all their time pursuing raid content with large groups. “We understand that not everyone is a raider, but we want to let players still feel like they can go out and strike a blow against the fire elementals. To that end, you can imagine two giant islands of rock floating above the Firelands–one is the raid dungeon with Ragnaros, and one is the daily quest hub.” The new area will apparently have layers of quests that unlock successively as you complete earlier steps, and it will have up to about 60 total quests. Said Street, the daily quest hub is “definitely more for solo players who aren’t interested in raiding and just want more content to explore.”

Furthermore, the 4.2 patch will add a new attainable player item, an epic caster staff (which, when fully upgraded, will be tagged as a “legendary” item in orange letters). Interestingly, the item will not simply be the loot dropped by a powerful boss monster. Said Street, “We’ve tried to do epic items a lot of different ways, and the least exciting is a rare drop from a boss monster. The most exciting way seems to be having a whole quest line associated with it. For the lucky casters that gets this staff, they’ll do some really epic things, such as bringing a raid group to fight epic bosses to bring their staff up to the next level.” The item will also have four upgrade levels. Though the first upgrade level will be relatively easy to get–it can be acquired from just about any boss monster in Cataclysm–actually attaining the fourth and final upgrade level will be much more challenging. “We’ve never done a legendary quest line this epic, so it’ll be interesting to see how players react to this,” said Street.

The upcoming content additions will let the World of Warcraft team experiment with new types of content and quests. The final addition that 4.2 will add to Cataclysm is a new quest line focused around Thrall, the orc warchief who first appeared in the Warcraft universe in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. While the character had already made a brief appearance in Cataclysm in an earlier quest line, the character is “going to have a really big role in the final battle against Deathwing,” explained Street. “This will be a chance for all players to get a lot more interaction with Thrall, particularly for Alliance players who don’t normally get to interact with him,” considering that Thrall is a character from the Horde faction (orcs, trolls, goblins, undead, blood elves), which directly opposes the game’s Alliance faction (humans, night elves, dwarves, gnomes, dranei, worgen). The designer suggested that Thrall’s quest line will feature “the kind of story you’d normally see in a novel, rather than in a game like this, though the story will be told through a series of quests. Thrall has an all-new [character] model and is now probably the best-looking character in the game. He has amazing animations and new facial expressions.” Street added, “If it works out well, we’d definitely like to use this type of story-driven quest line as vehicle for the [Warcraft universe's] other hero characters, but Thrall is definitely the most important one in World of Warcraft right now.”

Not surprisingly, Blizzard otherwise can’t really confirm too many details about World of Warcraft’s future. Said the designer, “Without going into too many details, we’re aware that players are asking for more ways to customize their characters and are looking into ways to address that. Also, we have a really wide audience, and while it’s easy for us to stray too far into content only for casual players, considering that some players feel that, for instance, the dungeons in Cataclysm are too hard, we definitely want to provide good content for players of all levels. We don’t just want to dumb everything down.”

The 4.1 patch should already be deploying to World of Warcraft and the 4.2 patch will follow shortly afterward.

GameSpot Asia delved through the first few chapters of the PlayStation 3 version of the full product and experienced a game that really took advantage of its abstract setting. Keep in mind that this preview may have minor spoilers.

The gist of the story is that main character Enoch has been sent down to Earth to find the Tower of Babel and confront the seven Watchers who brought down sacred knowledge of God to the humans without His permission. From what we’ve played so far, the game consists of a mix of 3D action, where you navigate a linear path while beating up group upon group of enemies (with a boss fight against the Watchers tossed in for good measure), and 2D platforming segments, where our jumping skills were put to the test.

Controlling Enoch during the action segments felt natural. His attacks and guards came out responsively; pressing the square button consecutively unleashed combos, while holding it down made Enoch perform a heavy attack. Guard breaks and perfect guards required a bit more finesse. For the former, pressing the square button and then pressing it again after half a second made us break an enemy’s block, leaving him open for further assaulting. For the latter, pressing the R1 button as the enemy’s attack hit parried the blow, which left us room to counterattack. While we did use these techniques sparingly, we knew that further chapters down the line would require us to improve our game, especially since replaying the game lets you gain ranks based on how well and fast you fight through them.

Enoch shows his foes how to use the gale shieldlike weapon properly.Enoch can steal three types of weapons from his foes when they’re stunned: the arch, the veil, and the gale. The arch is a standard sword-type melee weapon, while the veil is a shield that unleashes slow but damaging blows. The stylish-looking gale acts as a ranged weapon, and Enoch can pick apart enemies from afar with the gale’s floating triangle projectiles. The gale’s damage output, even while charged, isn’t comparable to the other two weapons, so using it up close isn’t the wisest choice since enemies wielding gales and arches can’t be knocked down while in their heavy attack animations. The three weapons balance each other out with their triangle relationship: the arch is strong against the veil wielders, the veil is strong against the gale bearers, and the gale is strong against arch users.

Keep in mind that weapons can degrade and deal less damage upon further use, which means that you have to purify them by pressing the L1 button. Enoch is vulnerable while doing this, so you have to pay attention to do it when far away from threats.

These weapons also bestow Enoch with special movement abilities. When he’s equipped with the gale, holding R1 and pressing the X button while pressing the left analog stick in any direction makes him do a quick dash that is handy not only for getting away from an enemy, but also for traversing the game’s 2D stages. The arch’s special ability is a quick forward hop that can take enemies by surprise, while the gale’s skill lets Enoch short-dash forward while blocking. Personally, we abused the gale’s special movement simply because it allowed Enoch to outmaneuver against overwhelming odds.

As a side note, disarming foes proved to be useful not just to switch out weapons to accommodate the combat scenario, but also as a means to leave foes powerless. As we performed simple melee combos with the arch on a gale-wielding giant to a point where it was stunned, we made short work of it after using its armaments against it. Enoch can use and carry only one weapon at a time, though, so you’ll need to think a little before aimlessly stealing; we found that out the hard way as we struggled against two veil-equipped giants while stuck with the gale. When in said pickle, we were fortunate enough to use the overboost power unlocked during a major boss battle. This power-up allowed Enoch to be enveloped in a cool flame effect which boosted his attack power and regenerated his armor.

The second chapter is full of this.Should the untimely knockout of Enoch occur (the game’s enemies were tricky to deal with), we could revive Enoch just before his eyelids closed by mashing the face buttons together with L1 and R1. The more times we kicked the bucket, the more times we were required to button-tap. We felt that this was a great addition that helped keep the flow of the game smooth without the need to head to the restart screen and stare at the loading screen.
While we had plenty to say about how Enoch enforced his physical version of the word of God, the obvious highlight of El Shaddai was the graphics and presentation. El Shaddai’s environments and art style are definitely nothing gamers have ever seen before. From the second chapter’s vast black and red corridor with circular platforms and a giant sphere with an eye overlooking in the background, to the third chapter’s lovely mix of whites and grays coupled with a 2D segment peppered with watercolor-esque clouds, to say that the game was a creative feast for the eyes is a huge understatement. We haven’t even gotten to the weirdness of the fourth chapter, where the tube-shaped race called the Nephilim were the stars of the acid-trip-inspired stage. The Nephilim acted as obstacles, using branches, seesaws, hula hoops, and beach balls in different ways to hinder Enoch’s path to reach the white-void lair of one of the Watchers named Sariel. On another note, Lucifer acted not only as Enoch’s guide, but also as a save point throughout the journey. When we came across him in-game, he was usually on his cell phone talking casually with God.

This interpretation of hell is just the tip of the iceberg as to what El Shaddai has to offer. While El Shaddai seemed unabashed at being a linear action game, and a simple one at that, its aesthetics and abstract visuals were its main draw. We suspect that future chapters of the game will be even more esoteric than the ones we played, though that would work to the game’s advantage. After all, games do need some sort of hook to be noticed, and the developers at Ignition Entertainment seem to have taken this to heart via the game’s visual style and biblical setting. As it stands, we felt immersed in the world and scenarios of El Shaddai and look forward to seeing how bizarre the rest of the game becomes. While the Japanese version of the game is out now, the English version is slated for a July release.

Glitches

Acquire free Berserk status in any battle.

Step 1: Un-equip all beserk status preventing items such as the Ribbon helmet from the party members you want beserked.

Step 2: Equip the Avenger sword on Kain (or Cecil).

Step 3: Enter a battle.

Step 4: For the Character you want beserked, watch his ATB. You need it to fill up just as Kain attacks. Once this happens, Kains berserk status will be copied to this character and he or she will now be berserked. (You can get your whole party berserked this way)

Step 5: Win the battle. Un-Equip Kains Avenger sword and equip on Kain any weapon you want. From now on until you restart the game, anytime Kains ATB fills up along side any of your other characters, they will be put in Beserk status, unless they are wearing a Ribbon.

Equip Adult Rydia with White Mage staffs.

When Rydia returns as an adult she no longer has the ability to use white magic, so she can no longer use staffs (but still can use rods don’t confuse the two) First off you must beat the game with her in your party and go to the lunar ruins and start her trial. When she is young again she has white magic again so you can equip her with staffs. Finish the trial with a staff equipped and even when she returns to an adult she will still have it on. But if you unequip it she will not be able to equip it unless you return to her trial in the lunar ruins. And now your black mage summoner has a white mage weapon.

Psycho Edward Glitch

This takes advantage of Edward’s auto-hide property when he is in critical status (low HP). First, berserk him, then take him down to critical (tornado works well). He should hide in his next available turn. However, he retains his berserk status, and in his next available turn, he’ll reappear and attack again. He will still be berserked, but he’ll also still be considered “hidden.” That means that he’ll constantly attack and never be able to be targetted, even by spells that should hit the entire party, as long as one other person is still alive (he can’t hide if he is the only person left alive). On the negative side, it also means you can’t heal him, even with party healing spells.

Unlockables

Lunar Ruins

Beat the game once to unlock the Lunar Ruins. Inside there will be a trial for each of your characters but to unlock these you must beat the final boss with each character atleast once.

The Cave of Trials

An eight floor dungeon containing weapons and armor for the party members you couldn’t use for the final dungeon in the original. Once you unlock Party Switching and head back to Mysidia, you’ll be informed of a new challenge at Mt. Ordeals. A scene will occur once you get there and the Cave of Trials will be accessable.

Easter Eggs

1991 Dev Team Office

The Developers’ room is now renamed to the 1991 Dev Team Office.

To get there, reach the Underworld for the first time. After gaining access to the armory (after beating Golbez in the crystal room) go down to the Weapon/Armor room and go behind the pillar between the two shop desks. From there, go up, you’ll then be in the Lali Ho Pub (another secret room). Then, go right to where there’s a dark marking on the floor and progress right through the wall and down a stairway. You will now be at the 1991 Dev Team Office entrance, where you can talk to the developers of the original game, complete with their rank back when they worked on the game in 1991.

Today, it comes from Craig Fairbrass, an iconic voice actor from the series.

Fairbrass–who voiced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Gaz and Modern Warfare 2′s Ghost–was a guest on Andy Goldstein’s Sports Bar radio show, a United Kingdom program, last night. The voice actor said he has been working on something he can’t say too much about.

When will Activision announce Modern Warfare 3?”Yeah, I did Call of Duty Modern Warfare as Gaz, then I did Ghost in Modern Warfare 2, which has become one of the most iconic figures in the history of computer games,” he said.

“I’ve just been out in [Los Angeles] doing something…I’ve been out doing some bits and pieces, and one of it’s to do with err…can’t say too much, you know what I mean…”

[UPDATE] As it turns out, Fairbrass offered more than just a passing correlation to his work in LA and his Call of Duty resume. As part of the same interview, he went on to confirm that he recorded voice work for Activision earlier this year, in addition to describing a bit of the process.

“You do like five, six, seven sessions…and they record it in this great big studio in Los Angeles, which is absolutely mental,” he said. “I was at it from January to the end of February, Activision took me to their hub, I was a guest for the day, and they took me all around and they showed me how the game–you know, these games are like $200 million to produce. This place was like the size of 10 factories, there was all these people working.”

Fairbrass also provided a sales update for the Modern Warfare franchise, saying Activision informed him that 27 million units had now been sold. Though Fairbrass wasn’t explicitly clear, that figure likely pertains to just Modern Warfare 2, as Activision said in June 2010 that the game had already sold more than 20 million units. Further, Activision said in August 2009 that the original Modern Warfare had itself sold more than 14 million units. As of November 2009, franchise sales stood at more than 55 million units.

Infinity Ward–based in Los Angeles–is reportedly working on Modern Warfare 3 alongside Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games. The game is expected to ship this November, in line with previous releases in the now-annualized series.
